Learn More About Creating Your Organization's BenefitBar

The Council now offers fellow nonprofits a cost-free way to stay connected to constituents whenever they’re on the Internet and, in the process, to raise extra dollars for their organizations.

It’s more than a wristband, it’s called BenefitBar, and here’s how it works:

Download

After learning about BenefitBar here on the Council's Web site, go to www.BenefitBar.com where you'll find instructions for downloading and installing your organization’s new BenefitBar toolbar.

Customize Your BenefitBar

Customizing is easy. You are in total control of the look and content of your Internet toolbar. Your BenefitBar can include your logo, drop down links, scrolling messages and more. BenefitBar gives you a login and password for you to make changes, or you can send a link or image to BenefitBar and they will make the changes.

The Council's BenefitBar takes the user to membership information, a list of programs and services, provides a scrolling message about upcoming deadlines and a link to ways to support the Council. It is the best way to make sure you don't miss out. The American Heart Association (AHA) BenefitBar takes the user to more about AHA, local information, heart attack/stroke warning signs, news, donate now and a Spanish language section. There are lots of ways to use the toolbar.

Spread the Word

BenefitBar takes care of hosting and technical support. Once you have downloaded and customized, all you need to do is:

  • Spread the news about your great new technology.
  • Encourage audiences to download your BenefitBar. It will take them only about a minute, depending on their browser. No matter which Internet page an individual is viewing, your BenefitBar remains visible yet unobtrusive and easy to hide. Users will be able to quickly access information on your Web site, generating no pop-ups, spyware or adware.
  • Keep users engaged by changing messages frequently. It’s easy to do from your laptop of PC using your pass code.

  • Maintaining your BenefitBar takes very little time because all information on the bar comes from your Web site.

    Raise Funds

Here are four ways BenefitBar can generate revenue for your organization:

    1. Include a link on your toolbar to drive e-commerce you already have on your Web site.

    2. Include a donation link on your toolbar and keep 100 percent of donations.

    3. Enlist old and new sponsors to sell ads in one of three ways:

  • On the bar, taking the user to the sponsor’s Web site.
  • On a scrolling message.
  • On the Yahoo! search engine landing page, so that every time someone searches via your BenefitBar and clicks on a sponsored link, your organization will be paid an average $.01 to $.015 per search. Even if the user doesn’t click the sponsored link, the sponsor’s ad will be the first thing they see when they use the search engine.

  • 4. Motivate people to download your toolbar and initiate searches from it, making money for the organization they are passionate about.

By acquiring your Benefit Bar through the Council, you generate a small return to the Council, spreading the toolbar’s benefit even further without decreasing the amount your organization would have received had you acquired BenefitBar directly from their Web site.

For Council members, BenefitBar is a triple hitter –

  • Audiences stay connected and updated, building loyalty towards your organization.
  • The more audiences that use the BenefitBar, the more revenue that flows to your organization.
  • By acquiring BenefitBar through the Council, you help the Council provide programs and services that help organizations like yours advance social benefit.
